Kegel8 Mother nurture, Electronic Pelvic Toner & TENS #Review

If you remember a while ago before Christmas, I wrote a post about how important it is to maintain and exercise your pelvic floor muscles. Over the last few months I have been trying out the Kegel8 Mother nurture, Electronic Pelvic Toner and Tens machine. They recommend using the Mother Nurture once or twice a day for three months for the best results. Given that the programmes on the Kegel8 mother nurture last anything between 20 minutes and an hour it demands a lot of time dedication, I only get this amount of quiet time to myself at night when the boys are asleep, so I have been carrying out my pelvic floor work out at night time.

Kegel8 Mother Nurture, is a new 3 in 1 Pelvic Floor Toner and Labour TENS that strengthens your pelvic floor muscles before pregnancy, provides natural pain relief during labour, and re-builds muscle strength after birth. Manual Kegel exercises can be highly beneficial if performed correctly, however research suggests that 50% of women don’t know how to produce an effective pelvic floor muscle contraction. What’s more, manual exercises target just 40% of the muscles, where as the Mother Nurture targets 90%.

When I first received the Kegel8 the first thing I noticed was the colours on the box probably not really that important but its purple and white very pretty - it kind of says I am personal and doesn't give a lot away, I guess my main point about it would be if you are embarrassed about pelvic floor exercises you could pop the box in the drawer and it would be quite discreet.

Once I lifted the lid off the box, I did think my word this looks very complicated there were wires for this and wires for that and a hand held battery powered device, I did think this is going to take me forever to learn how to use it. but it actually didn't take me that long to work out how to fit the device together, the wires that fit into the battery control pack are quite self explanatory you cant really get the wires in the wrong places as the ends of the wires are different shapes so they only fit into one place.

The Mother Nurture has pre-set programmes to work your pelvic floor differently depending on your situation: Pre-conception for a general workout; Recovery soon after birth; Postnatal with four different settings according to your issues. It also doubles up as a TENS machine for pain relief during labour.

I have already tried out another pelvic floor exerciser which I was impressed by, however I did feel slightly overwhelmed at the Kegel8 once I had read how it works, as once this is inserted into the vagina it gives electric shocks to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles.
Although it sounds awful it really wasn't as bad as I expected, you do really need to read the instruction booklet thoroughly before use. The booklet that comes with the Kegel8 takes some reading and is a little complicated, it took me a while to work through the booklet before to make sure I knew exactly what I was doing before using the Kegel8.

Once you’ve inserted the probe you can choose your programme and gradually increase the electrical current to a comfortable level for you. It starts off as a tingling sensation and then almost feels like a pulling on the muscles. At the right level, it’s not at all painful but if you go too high it feels quite uncomfortable, However You’re in total control.
I would say be careful though, if you hold your finger on the plus button, it jumps up faster than when pressing it repeatedly. Also I would recommend laying in a position that you are comfortable in from the start as if you changed position slightly, the probe obviously would move and it would feel uncomfortable meaning having to reduce the current.

If there are two phases to a programme you’re using on the Kegel8, the current stops when the first phase ends. Initially I thought that the programme had finished, However further fiddling about with the kegel8 made me realise that it had in fact not finished,  you have to press the plus button again to increase the current and begin the next phase. while it’s not explained in the instructions it was quite easy to work out what to do next.

As I said earlier I have been using this product for the last few months and it really has taken some dedication, but the dedication has been worth it I have noticed a big difference I am not leaking urine when I cough or sneeze so much (sorry for the graphics) but its true! I wouldn't say this is any better or worse than the other pelvic floor exerciser I tried before Christmas, However the kegel8 is slightly more complex.

Ladies we all brush our teeth every day, wash our faces and have some great beauty routines, I cant stress how important it is to work out that pelvic floor muscle, it might not matter so much now but as we get into later life you will be glad you did. Whether it is aided I would recommend the Kegel8 or unaided on the bus or at work at your desk, no one needs to know but it really is so important so get them working!

You can find out more about the Kegel8 mother nurture over on their website you can also find out more about  the other products in the range and a huge amount of information on pelvic floor exercises.
